bonsai tree wigan

The ancient art of Bonsai, (yes it is spelt with an ’s’ not as Bonzai!) the cultivation in containers of miniature trees or woody plants grown as a tree, stretches back to Egyptian culture. There is pictorial evidence from 4000 BC showing trees growing in containers cut into rock. Referred to as Pensai in ancient Chinese culture the Japanese changed the term to Bonsai to more represent the way they grew miniature trees in shallow, wider pots.

Interestingly its while they are in their ‘Autumn’ stage that deciduous Bonsai look really spectacular as their leaves turn from green to spectacular yellows and golden brown.

Although Bonsai trees by definition come from outdoor species of tree there are many that will survive quite happily indoors. Trees from tropical regions that do not have to deal with seasonal changes in temperature are more suited to a constant climate which is more easily created indoors. Here at YOUR TEXT HERE we keep all of our Bonsai outdoors in the Summer only bringing them into our retail glass house in October where they will thrive quire happily until Spring. If you have a greenhouse any of our Bonsai can be overwintered there or even a conservatory or garage will suit just as well.

The point is that a Bonsai tree is not difficult to look after. It’s most important to follow a reasonable watering and feeding regime through Summer, reduce the watering through winter and there is little to go wrong. To support our Bonsai display we have all the tools, fertilisers, composts and Bonsai books you might need. We also have a good range of starter kits and Bonsai pots if you want to grow your own from a small sapling.
